Patricia Richey is the Vermillion County Assessor, and took office in 2007.  Patricia is assisted by Karen Johnson, 1st deputy and Paige Kilgore, 2nd deputy. Cary Jones is a part time assistant.  We are all Level II Certified.  Combined, we have over 300 hours of Continuing Education Credit which is required by the state of Indiana, this allows us to maintain our certification and to remain current with assessment practices.
Patricia has completed several IAAO classes  and working to achieve Level III status.  She also holds her Indiana Assessor’s Certification issued by the Indiana Assessor’s Association.  Before taking the office of County Assessor, she was the Clinton Twp Assessor for eight years.

We are responsible for the Assessment of all property in our County.  Property includes all improvements on the land.  Taxpayers are encouraged to remember that March 1st of any year is the assessment date, and taxes are always a year behind.  Vermillion County has 12,600 parcels of property, and it is important for taxpayers to be aware of their assessments. Property cards can be obtained from the GIS link at the Vermillion County web site, or we will be happy to send you a copy of your assessment record card.

For the March 1st Assessment date, we will mail a notice of assessment. If you believe your assessment is higher than market value, you may file an appeal, in writing, within 45 days of this notice. Many properties in Vermillion County were subjected to a decrease in value, due to the market adjustments.

Please use this link to obtain additional information about the appeals process:  http://www.in.gov/dlgf/files/PropertyTaxAppealsProcess.pdf

If you believe your property is valued too high, you will need to appeal this assessment to the Vermillion County Property Tax Assessment Board. This board is made up of local individuals, appointed by the Vermillion County Commissioners and Council.

Property Tax Assessment Board members are:
Thomas Gosnell - Fairview
Janet Hughes - Perrysville
Joan Doane - Clinton
